Welcome to another episode of Streamer X DAC Project!
Streamer X DAC Project is an initiative of Vinshine Audio where Vinshine Audio acquire several popular streamers on the market, test them extensively with DENAFRIPS DAC, get accustomed and have the first-hand experience of these streamers in order to be able to make recommendations what are the parameter settings, interface (SPDIF/i2s/USB) work best with DENAFRIPS DAC.

Wiim->Optical->DENAFRIPS Ares 12th DAC->Preamp->Active Spk
Wiim Home App
Download the Wiim App on the smartphone/tablet. The app shall detect the Wiim connected to the same network
SPDIF Optical Output
In this discussion, we will focus on the SPDIF Optical Output. Configure the SPDIF Streaming Quality found in Audio Settings sub-menu.
Set the SPDIF Output Resolution to 24/192KHz. Wiim Mini will output native sampling rate of the tracks in bit perfect*
Note: DENAFRIPS OPT input supports PCM192KHz

Wiim Mini supports popular streaming services available on the market. We have been using Tidal, it works very well for us.

Digital FM Tuner
I listen to News Radio Channel 95% of the time. The built-in vTuner and TuneIn are by far my favourite and most frequently stream contents.
VERDICT
Wiim Mini is an overachiever, without a single doubt.
Its smartphone and tablet app is responsive, user friendly; probably the easiest-to-setup streamer we have ever use.
The ability to output High-Res 24/192KHz sampling rate over the Optical (TOSLINK) in bit-perfect is a big plus point.
If you are new to streaming, this little streamer will get you started and up to speed in no time. Its sound quality is fairly good too.
At this price point, it is highly recommended!
